Drone Zones UK privacy policy
Drone Zones UK ("the app") is published by Cloud Phoenix Limited ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12906101), registered office C/O Aardvark Accounting, 1 Cedar Office Park, Cobham Road, Wimborne, BH21 7SB, United Kingdom. Contact: dronezones@cloudphoenix.co.uk.
In short
- No account, no adverts, no analytics or tracking.
- The app doesn't collect or send us any of your personal data. It has no servers of its own. (If you leave a tip or contact us, see Tips, reviews and feedback.)
- The app talks directly to a few public services (listed below) to show the map and data. Like any internet request, those services see your device's IP address and the request itself.
What stays on your device
- Your location. Used only when you tap My location, to centre the map and check that spot. It isn't stored and isn't sent to us.
- Saved places, settings and choices (map type, layers, maximum height).
- Downloaded data: airspace restriction zones, NOTAMs, the app's settings file, and map tiles you've viewed (kept so the map works without signal). You can clear map tiles under About › Data on this device. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
What is sent to other services, and why
| Service | What it receives | Why | Their privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| NATS (UK Aeronautical Information Service) | Requests for the published airspace datasets | Restriction zones and NOTAMs | nats.aero |
| OpenStreetMap Foundation | Which map tiles are needed (the area you're viewing) | Default map | osmfoundation.org |
| Esri | Which satellite tiles are needed (the area you're viewing) | Satellite map, when you choose it | esri.com |
| Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) | The place name or address you search for | Place search | osmfoundation.org |
| postcodes.io (Ideal Postcodes) | The postcode you search for | Postcode search | ideal-postcodes.co.uk |
| Open-Meteo | The coordinates of the spot you check (which may be your own location, if you checked it with My location); for the weather forecast, rounded to about 1 km | Ground height and the weather forecast for that spot | open-meteo.com |
| GitHub | A request for the app's settings files | Lets us change service settings without an app update | github.com |
| Cloud Phoenix website (cloudphoenix.co.uk, hosted by Hostinger) | A weekly check for the nature and aviation sites map files (the same files for everyone, never anything about where you are) | Protected nature sites (SSSIs); airfields, helipads and other low-level hazards | our website privacy notice, hostinger.com |
Each request also carries your IP address and an identifier for the app (its name, version and our contact email), never anything that identifies you. We don't control how these services handle requests; see their policies above.
Tips, reviews and feedback
- Tips are optional and paid through Google Play under Google's terms and privacy policy. We never see your card or payment details. Google gives us basic order information (such as an order number, the item, price, date and country), which we keep for our accounts and to handle refunds.
- Reviews are made in Google Play's own review screen and published by Google under your Google account name. The app doesn't see what you write.
- Feedback. If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to reply and improve the app. If you use our contact form, the same applies; see our website privacy notice.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13.
Your rights
The app doesn't collect personal data about you. If you've tipped or emailed us, you can ask us for a copy of, or to delete, what we hold (except order records we must keep for tax and accounting). For data a third-party service may hold, contact that service. If you have a concern, email us at dronezones@cloudphoenix.co.uk. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
